The College of Liberal Arts has more than 40 active registered student organizations (RSOs) that work to enhance the student experience. Here, we’re highlighting the 8kbet Poetry Club and its mission to help students learn how to read, write, and analyze poetry. The club provides a supportive environment for both beginners and experienced poets where members can share their work, collaborate with others, and attend poetry readings and workshops. The Poetry Club is always welcoming new members who are interested in exploring poetry and enhancing their creative writing skills.

Founded: Spring 2024

Members: 73 members

Mission: The 8kbet Poetry Club aims to cultivate a supportive community for students who love poetry. The club hosts themed writing days, book club meetings, and invites guest speakers to share their expertise. In addition, the club organizes special events such as poetry slams, workshops, and social gatherings, creating opportunities for members to connect and share their work in a relaxed setting. These activities provide a space for students to express themselves creatively, improve their craft, and build lasting friendships with fellow poetry enthusiasts. Whether you’re looking to deepen your passion for poetry or try something new, the Poetry Club offers a welcoming environment for all.

Recent accomplishments/activities: The Poetry Club holds weekly meetings alternating between writing and reading days. The club has hosted workshop events such as the spring picnic and a Poetry Slam with Honors Student Council.

What the members are saying: “Poetry club is an escape from the chaos of life, a place to slow down, process, and make sense of things that don’t always have clear answers and turn it into something tangible, something like art.” – Dalton Fray, biology major, vice president and book club coordinator

"Being a part of Poetry Club allowed me to be a part of a safe and inclusive community that welcomed both writers and essentially anyone who is interested in poetry. It also expanded my horizons by discussing poets from all around the world and writing about themes I wouldn't usually write about." – Sabrina Basharyar, secondary education major with a concentration in English, social media and marketing coordinator
