HSI Resource Hub Webinar: Funds of Knowledge in STEM and the College Assistance Migrant Program with Ulises Trujillo Garcia May 9

Join the HSI Resource Hub May Webinar: Funds of Knowledge in STEM and the College assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) with Ulises Trujillo Garcia on Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Latinx students from migrant farmworking families face unique challenges when navigating educational and professional contexts. Yet, they possess rich funds of knowledge that can support their success. However, the way STEM fields are traditionally taught often fails to incorporate these funds of knowledge, creating a disconnect between students' lived experiences and their STEM curriculum—particularly in engineering. As a result, many students graduate without recognizing how their home and cultural knowledge can be integrated into STEM, limiting their ability to see themselves reflected in these fields.

By understanding and integrating the funds of knowledge that migratory individuals bring to the classroom, we can improve how STEM fields are taught and practiced. This seminar presents:

  1. Findings demonstrating how migrant students and working professionals have applied their funds of knowledge in engineering and other STEM disciplines, and
  2. Strategies for incorporating funds of knowledge to better support undergraduate migratory students across STEM fields.
